The finish on your kitchen cabinetry is the first thing you see and an indication of its quality. It’s your first impression when you walk into the kitchen and when you run your fingers over the smooth luxurious surface of cabinet doors and drawers. For that reason, we make major investments in our cabinet finish systems, finish colors and our topcoats because we fully believe that the finish is what makes your kitchen cabinetry look beautiful long into the future – and makes you feel good about your choice and investment in Dura Supreme cabinetry!
Dura Supreme’s cabinet finishes are hand-applied and hand-wiped so that the natural beauty of the wood is fully enhanced. As with any hand finishing technique, there can be subtle variations in the application, the absorption of the stain, and the glaze detailing. We recommend viewing several sample cabinet doors and displays to see the full spectrum of color and hand-detailing. This is especially important with glazed or distressed cabinet finishes due to their artistic application.
Our topcoats are durable, scratch and mar resistant, household chemical resistant, and UV resistant to protect your kitchen cabinetry from normal wear and tear while retaining its beautiful luster and sheen. We use catalyzed conversion varnish sealers and topcoats in our state-of-the-art cabinet finish facilities for their unmatched durability AND beauty.
Stained Cabinet Finishes
Dura Supreme offers a beautiful palette of hand-rubbed, stained finishes that enhance the natural character and grain of the wood species. Our cabinet finish artisans meticulously sand the surface and profiles of the door so that the stain is absorbed evenly. The stain is then sprayed over the surface and wiped by hand so that it develops a beautiful, transparent color that fully showcases the grain and character of the wood. Our durable, catalyzed conversion varnish sealer and topcoat protect the cabinet finish and create a soft luster with a smooth, silky feel.
What is a Glazed Cabinet Finish?
A glaze is a semi-transparent color that is applied over the stain finish for added depth and dimension. Along with profiles and corners, the glaze highlights and accentuates the carved details of the cabinet door. A glaze finish is an artistic, hand-applied cabinet finish technique that will exhibit subtle and unique variations.
Stain/Glaze VS. Stain/Accent Cabinet Finishes
Dura Supreme offers two types of glazed finishes for stained cabinetry; a full-coverage glaze, “Stain/Glaze”, which is sprayed and wiped over the entire surface and tints the base stain color, and an accented glaze, “Stain/Accent”, that is applied only along with the cabinet profiles and edges.
Artistic Heirloom Cabinet Finishes
“Heirloom” and “Heavy Heirloom” are collections of “Stain/Glaze” cabinet finishes that are hand-detailed to create an antiqued appearance with beautiful dimension and depth. Before the cabinet finish is applied, corners and edges are softened by our finish artisans and the surface of the wood is “distressed” to give the look of a time-worn character. The glaze is then applied to accentuate the carved details of the cabinet door. Heavy Heirloom finishes are chiseled and rasped to create a more rustic appearance. Heirloom finishes are an especially artistic, hand-detailed cabinet finish that will exhibit unique, subtle variations.
Distressed Patina Cabinet Finishes
“Patina” and “Heavy Patina” are collections of “Stain/Glaze” cabinet finishes that are hand-detailed to create an antiqued appearance with beautiful dimension and depth. Before the cabinet finish is applied, corners and edges are softened and the surface of the wood is “distressed” to create a look of a well-loved and aged piece of furniture. The glaze is then applied to accentuate the carved details of the cabinet door. Outside corners and edges are then “air-brushed” to create a one-of-a-kind “Patina”. For Heavy Patina finishes, we create the additional rustic character by heavily distressing the wood and the finish with chisel marks, joint cracks, rasp marks, bird-peck, spatter, and dry-brush. Patina finishes are an especially artistic cabinet finish and will have unique variations with each rendering.
Weathered Wood Cabinetry Finishes
Our “Weathered” collection is designed to look like wood that has been exposed to years of sun, wind, and rain. Our special finishing process raises the grain to create a uniquely textured surface. This finish collection employs artistic, hand-detailing techniques that will have unique, subtle variations with each application.
